Destination - Flamingo, FL

This piece could have been titled “Destination Everglades” but the Everglades are so vast and widespread I hope to add a few more of these articles for other parts in the future. I had wanted to do an Everglades trip for as long as I could remember, and when the Boondoggle announcement was made for Flamingo I knew it was meant for me.

Kayak Fishing Destination - Wakulla, FL

I struggled with the location to pin this destination piece on, because there is an absolute paddling paradise throughout the entire “Forgotten Coast” of Florida. My normal base of operations there is at Shell Island Fish Camp in Wakulla, FL so that is where the pin dropped.

So you want to catch a Bull Red?

Red drum, redfish, spot-tail, puppy drum, drum, channel bass, red bass. There are so many names for this beautiful copper sport fish, depending on where you live. Their scientific name is Sciaenops ocellatus (Sciaenops – Greek word meaning perch-like marine fish; oceallatus – Latin word meaning an eye-like colored spot). They are arguably the most sought after coastal fish in Florida, which I (and many others) consider the Redfish Capital of the World.
