A New Year and New Beginnings for YakAngler

Years ago, Mark and Adam, two kayak anglers who are very passionate about the sport, had the vision to create a community-driven website that would become the ultimate kayak fishing resource. YakAngler was born and the site has grown to exceed their expectations. The time has come for Mark and Adam to pass the torch to Advertical Media, a small Florida-based publishing company that consists of a dedicated team of people.

Live Target Lures

It’s been a while since I’ve done a product profile and to be honest I kind of miss doing them. I love researching new and innovative products that are hitting the market to share with my fellow YakAnglers. Well after a recent kayak fishing trip with my brother-in-law I found a product that I figured fit the season.

YakAngler 2.0 Is Here!

Well after a couple of months of work YakAngler 2.0 is finally live!!  The change over didn’t happen as smoothly as I’d have liked, seems our prior host is having an issue with domain redirects.

I know there will be a ton of questions about how to use some of the new features.  Please post your questions in this thread.

Braid Vs Mono – My Take

There’s ALWAYS a debate over braided lines and monofilament lines. We all know the pros and cons….stretch vs no stretch…abrasion resistance…sensitivity….strength… castability….But what no one likes to talk about is wind knots or memory loops.

Diablo Paddlesports

After the great response to our first article about the  SUP-YAK, we decided to check in on the Texas duo of Thomas Flemons and Jay Korbell to see how things were progressing and ask them a few questions.

YakAngler (YA) When did you first start work on the Sup-Yak?

Thomas Flemons of Diablo Paddle sports (DP) Standing up to paddle a kayak has been something that we have always done to scout rapids and stretch our legs, problem always was, how long can we stay up.  When I saw the emergence of the Stand up paddleboard, and people starting to fish off them, I realized that there was a sweet spot in there for a multi purpose platform that you could comfortably sit or stand in to paddle or even pole.  Like a mini-skiff for all waters, Huck Finn style.

Jim Sammons

Through the magic of the internet, I got to have a virtual sit down with Jim Sammons, world renowned Big Game Kayak Fisherman and Kayak Fishing Guide. Jim hosts “The Kayak Fishing Show," which airs on WFN. Jim also hosted the movie "Game On". In both his TV show and movie you get a chance to join Jim as he travels the world in search of big game fish from his kayak.

Wilderness Systems Tarpon Angler Series

I had dinner with a friend last night and he told me about his most recent kayak purchase, the tarpon 120 by Wilderness systems.  He is a fellow Yak Angler and just raved about this boat, so after receiving his seal of approval about his new purchase,  I wanted to share this series with you fellow anglers.

While the Tarpon has always been rigged for the ultimate fishing experience; they've upped the ante with the new SlideTrax accessory system and new Orbix hinged hatch covers. Now, the sit on top that does everything can do even more.

Howard McKim

Its hard to talk about serious kayak fishing without the name Howard McKim.  After giving up his spots on the beaches and jetties, McKim took up kayak angling in 1996 and hasn't looked back.  Just a few years later, in 2003, McKim started Ketchian Kayak Company in the heart of salmon country.  Here he offers kayak based eco-tours and kayak angling chargers.  They'll pick you up, take you to one of their kayaks, and get you on the fish.  From four hours tours, to multi-day remote fishing trips, McKim and Ketchikan Kayak will surely not disappoint!
