Smallies on Swimbaits - Day 1

As a teacher with summers off, I used to spend at least three or four days a week on the water. That gave me so much time to get pictures, video, try out new techniques, and really key into what the fish were doing in my local bodies of water. Adulthood, home ownership, and holding my son out of daycare to be a full-time parent during the summer has cut into my fishing time, so I may only get on the water once every couple of weeks.

The Golden Isles Boondoggle

The dates for the 2014 Presidents Day Boondoggle included Valentine’s Day, so many anglers had to convince wives, significant others, and girlfriends to allow them to head to the Crooked River Boondoggle in Georgia’s Golden Isles. Marian understands my enjoyment of fishing and she tries really hard to enjoy it, too. She really enjoys kayaking and birding, so after 3-4 hours of fishing Marian will just sit in the marsh to read and maybe see a new bird species.

On The Road Again!

Tomorrow Adam and I are on the road at o' dark thirty for ten arduous days of driving and work. Well… If you consider driving to warmer climates to meet up with friends at the President’s Day Boondoggle, then a week-long road trip down to the Everglades to fish the Adventure Fishing World Championship (AFWC) to be work… Then yes, it sucks to be us and have to work ten days straight!

Sore Muscles, Big Smiles

My friends, family, and I had the incredible opportunity to be a part of the 2013 Beep Ball World Series with a kayak race. Nineteen teams from all over the United States and one from Taiwan came to Columbus, GA for the championship series. Players from eighteen of these teams participated in an intense kayak race on the Chattahoochee River.

IFA Savannah, Georgia Results

This was my first Inshore Fishing Association (IFA) kayak tournament. This event proved to be a great opportunity to fish a new area, and meet old and new friends, just like the Boondoggles - except the anglers are a little more tight-lipped. During Saturday pre-fishing for Robert Vaughn (from Columbia) and me, it looked like we were in some fishy waters, but we struck out. We checked out the Turner River and the Lazaretto Creek. Both places we noticed bait activity and possible redfish escaping our lures, but no hookups to confirm our thoughts.

When kayakers and fishing enthusiasts gathered in Henry County, Georgia on Saturday June 4, they focused on Special Olympics and the events of the day rather than who's who. Saturday marked the second annual Kayak and Fishing Field Day at the Cubihatcha Outdoor Center in Locust Grove. The event is sponsored by the Henry County Parks and Recreation Therapeutic Recreation Division and The Georgia Kayak Fishing Foundation (GKFF). But GKFF also used this day - perhaps their 'signature event' - to announce their new name, Paddle4Tomorrow
