Vidal Wins Inaugural Kayak Fishing ClassicS

Pepi Vidal battled a number of top kayak anglers throughout the series year to capture first place in the Kayak Fishing ClassicS inaugural East Coast Series Division, and I must say it is a victory well deserved. He also won the East Angler of the Year Award and the all new “Amigo” kayak by Diablo Paddlesports. He already had earned everyone’s respect by years of friendly help and assistance to all who needed it.

Outdoor Retailer Open Air Demo 2013

After plane delays, bird strikes, lost bags, and missed connections, the YakAngler crew finally arrived in Salt Lake City Utah for Outdoor Retailer 2013. Already missing the first couple of hours of the open air demo they headed straight from the airport to Pineview Reservoir. A 50 minute drive through the beautiful hills and mountains of Utah they were greeted with free beer and paddleboards as far as the eye could see.

Tarpon Fever Classic 2012 Results

The Kayak Fishing ClassicS held the sixth of ten tournament series events for 2012 on June 16 in Sarasota, Florida. The Old Salty Dog Tarpon Fever Classic was greeted with building winds and scattered fish. The contestants were fishing for one tarpon and two redfish, but Mother Nature had something else in mind for many of them.

Choosing The Right Kayak for You

One thing folks ask me quite a bit is “What’s the best kayak I should get?” Since the variables are so complex, there’s no simple, cut and dry answer. It’s almost like asking someone what sort of shoes to buy. I’m sure that any kayak fishing guide or pro angler will tell you to get the kayak that they use because, chances are, they’re on a kayak manufacturers pro staff and that’s what they’re supposed to do.

Diablo New Product Testing

We went out to test out some new accessories on the Colorado River last week, and couldn’t have had a better day on the water.  Megan, Tyler and myself headed out with a Diablo Paddlesports Adios’ and Chupacabra, to Webberville for an afternoon float n’ fish.  One Adios was rigged with a Torqeedo trolling motor, while the other was sporting a prototype skeg, and the Chupacabra was also sporting a skeg.  We tried out all three and were very impressed with how all performed.

Diablo Paddlesports

After the great response to our first article about the  SUP-YAK, we decided to check in on the Texas duo of Thomas Flemons and Jay Korbell to see how things were progressing and ask them a few questions.

YakAngler (YA) When did you first start work on the Sup-Yak?

Thomas Flemons of Diablo Paddle sports (DP) Standing up to paddle a kayak has been something that we have always done to scout rapids and stretch our legs, problem always was, how long can we stay up.  When I saw the emergence of the Stand up paddleboard, and people starting to fish off them, I realized that there was a sweet spot in there for a multi purpose platform that you could comfortably sit or stand in to paddle or even pole.  Like a mini-skiff for all waters, Huck Finn style.
