8 Great Springtime Bass Lures

Most bass in the southern states have completed their spawn, and other northern states have just started to see them bed down. Here are eight lures that will help you catch those springtime bass.

Florida Freshwater Pit Fishing

It’s springtime here in Florida, and that means fish both fresh and salt are active - very active. This trip, we agreed to fish the freshwater. We had just had two days of rain, so we knew there would be flowing water from culverts and overflows between lakes that would concentrate fish. The place we chose to launch the kayaks is a management area called Tenoroc.

March Fishing Report

Winter is finally breaking in the south and allowing for some manageable days out. Today gave me bluebird skies and some wind (but manageable) on Lady Bird Lake in downtown (yep I said downtown) Austin, TX.

Spring Kayak Fishing In January

It’s 4:53am when I hear the back door open and shut very quickly. I’m in bed. I can hear my wife walk down the hallway, muttering about how cold it is outside. She’s a dairy farmer. She’s up each day at 1:50 am for the first milking. I ask her if she took a look at the thermometer when she left the dairy. “Ten below,” she says with disgust. She crawls in with me, puts her ice-cold feet on my warm legs, and I hop immediately out of bed. It’s time to go fishing.

Carrie is relentless when it comes to kayak fishing, finding new methods to bring aboard our finned friends for a quick picture and release.

Sanity Day

I’ve been busy. Really busy, just like everyone else. It came to my attention recently that my son and I haven’t been out in our kayaks nearly enough this summer and I needed to schedule a Sanity Day on the Stones River. Mission: Get onto some fish together. Secondary Mission: To see my teenage son get at least one big goofy grin across his face.

Bass On The Road

When the opportunity came to guide a film crew on a freshwater river fishing expedition, the River Stalkers crew jumped at the chance. Stewart Venable, Eric Hughes, and I are all admitted river fishing addicts who love making converts of non-river fisherman. Bob Bramblet and Jim Van Pelt are accomplished saltwater anglers who wanted to pit their skills against some of our hard-fighting river species.
