A Day at the Beach

Written by

It seems like forever since I joined my friends for some beach tarpon. Last summer I was so sick that I had to back out at the last minute, and then I made the decision that it wouldn’t be a good idea for me to venture out in my condition. But since then, I’ve felt much stronger and after a long day on the water Saturday (I paddled roughly seven miles) I made the call to join the boys on the beach.

Keeping an open mind

Written by

Many of my close friends and fishing buddies know me for my many “life lesson” slogans that I’ve picked up from some of the most inspirational people throughout my life. As I sit in front of my keyboard and reflect on the past weekend of fishing, one slogan comes to me: "Keep an open mind."

Yielding to Obtain Victory

Written by

“By Yielding, you may obtain victory” – Ovid. All too often, I have missed out on quality fishing trips because I let less important tasks get in the way of potential happiness. I sat at my desk knocking out spreadsheet after spreadsheet and felt inclined to complete something that realistically would not be finished that day, and didn’t have to be.

Peacocks Close to Home

Written by

For the last few years I have been driving across the State of Florida to enjoy the peacock bass fishery there. It seemed like a good trade off, a two hour drive to Miami for a chance at these exotics. But recently I was tipped off to a location for peacocks that was closer to me, much closer.

Just Fish

Written by

Well before even a hint of sunrise, I met up with Bill Howard and Greg Becker to get another lesson in my flats fishing class. We readied our gear, and Greg handed me a VHF radio to communicate with the group. I put it in the bag on the back of my seat and we launched into the bay. As we paddled out, I had one goal in mind: to find my first ever snook.

A YakAngler Triple-Play

Written by

When I heard that fellow writer Gregg Crisp, aka “Hammerhead” would be in town, I was stoked to set something up and show him my home waters. The “Imperialist Revisionist” (aka Greg Becker) would also be joining us with his son Robert, so I knew between the four of us someone would be able to find a few fish. Little did I know what the day would bring.

Redemption Red

Written by

When I first planned to attend the Boondoggle, I had hopes of meeting a few fellow YakAnglers and tangling with as many fish as I could. I had never fished the Mosquito Lagoon, but have had dreams of the monster reds that cruise those shallows. I loaded up the truck and my Jackson Kayak “Big Tuna” and headed south well before sunrise with high hopes.

Post Boondoggle Redfish Bonanza

Written by

Boondoggle 2013 at KARS Park, on Merritt Island, FL has come and gone. The weather was against us all weekend: rain all day Thursday, high winds Friday, cold winds Friday night, more wind on Saturday, bitter cold and even more wind Saturday night. But I can honestly say I had a great time. At my first Boondoggle, I met many people I have conversed with on the internet, so it was good to finally put faces to names.
