Fishin' with Funk - Boongoggle 2015

I have wanted to go to the Everglades for as long as I have held a fishin’ rod. As soon as I saw the location for the 2015 Boondoggle, I started making plans. My friend Robert and I had talked about fishing the Glades for the twenty-plus years we have worked together so I knew exactly who to ask to go along. Way before sunrise on February 12, we saddled up my Tacoma and headed south for the twelve-hour drive.

Presidents Day Boondoggle 2015

This weekend, kayak anglers from around the country will be driving south to escape winter’s wrath at the Fifth Annual Presidents Day Boondoggle. The heat was on in more ways than one at the 10,000 Islands Classic in the Everglades May 18, which was hosted by The Seafood Depot in Everglades City. In the third of five Gulf Coast divisional tournaments, there was a lot at stake to turn up the heat. With temperatures in the 90s by late morning adding to the pressure, the tournament took on a serious tone. Chuck Statham had the lead in the series standings and Joe Komyati and others were right behind him to keep it cozy.

10K Islands Kayak Fishing Expedition

No matter where you live, there are opportunities for a road trip. I am fortunate enough to live within an hour’s drive of the 10,000 Islands and the Everglades. I have long wanted to go on an overnight kayak fihsing/camping trip to some of the outer islands on the Gulf of Mexico and partake in the legendary fishing there. After lots of preparation, my chance came during an April weekend.

Kayak Fishing Chokoloskee Florida

Kayak fishing in Florida has many great opportunities. This week I thought I would go back a few years and share one of my most favorite spots here in Florida. The island of Chokoloskee sits right in the middle of what’s known as the 10,000 Islands, which starts in Naples and runs all the way south along the west coast of Florida.
