Titusville IFA Kayak Fishing Tour

Sixty-eight kayak anglers participated in the Titusville IFA Kayak Fishing Tour in search of a bull red and a gator trout to win this event. I decided to be one of those anglers and traveled to Titusville, FL to fish the legendary Mosquito Lagoon. I’m always hearing reports and seeing photos of bull redfish and trout caught in the Mosquito Lagoon that dwarf a South Carolina redfish.

At 3:00am I rolled into Josh Slager’s driveway in Lakeland, FL and we started our journey to the East Coast for the Emily's 2014 Inshore Fishing Tournament. Emily is a ten-year-old little girl who is the only one in the world who has the genetic disorder Chromosome 2q36 Deletion Syndrome. She also has autism and epilepsy. This is an annual tournament to help raise funds for Emily’s therapy at her special school, which costs $29,000 a year.

On The Road Again!

Tomorrow Adam and I are on the road at o' dark thirty for ten arduous days of driving and work. Well… If you consider driving to warmer climates to meet up with friends at the President’s Day Boondoggle, then a week-long road trip down to the Everglades to fish the Adventure Fishing World Championship (AFWC) to be work… Then yes, it sucks to be us and have to work ten days straight!

Redemption Red

When I first planned to attend the Boondoggle, I had hopes of meeting a few fellow YakAnglers and tangling with as many fish as I could. I had never fished the Mosquito Lagoon, but have had dreams of the monster reds that cruise those shallows. I loaded up the truck and my Jackson Kayak “Big Tuna” and headed south well before sunrise with high hopes.

Great Day On The NMZ "No Motor Zone"

After talking with Alan Ryland about the day he and Steve Brand spent on the "NMZ", the location of our next Boondoggle. I knew I needed to get out there and put hooks in fishes faces! So I met up with Alan around 7:15 or so, got all unloaded and off we went in search of Reds and Trout. The wind was light out of the west and the water was very cool already so we knew it would be a bit of a waiting game until the flat warmed up a bit. I started the day using a Slayer Inc SST in Gumbo color rigged on a Tommy Head Jig! As the water warmed so did the action, I caught a nice slot red pictured here.

Spring Training

Due to a commitment at work, I missed out on the incredible Chokoloskee Boondoggle trip to the 10,000 Islands area of South Florida. Well, this past week work paid me back. I got a chance to go to Florida to work for a few days, and had the bonus of taking Thursday and Friday off to do some fishing. I quickly hatched a plan - not only was I going to get out on the warm Florida waters, but I was going to get to finally get to give the new Jackson “Cuda” a sea trial.
