Recently I've been fishing alot standing up and last week while casting to a school of reds I caught a wake from a freakin jetski! Well needless to say I hit the drink because I wasn't ready for the wake. Anyone use outriggers on their yaks before? Any recommendations?

I have never used them but have been seriously considering fabricating a pair to accompany the pedestal seat that I made a couple weeks ago.

DIY Pedestal Seat

There are some made by Scotty which are nice because they fit into your scotty rod holders.

I was going to probably pick up these for my Hobie Revo. They come in different colors and are guaranteed for 5 years. Pricey though.
Here is the link to Spring Creek Kayak.

Just started fabricating a set last night. Hopefully I finish it up today and get some pictures.

So here's the initial design that I came up with. Haven't tested it yet but plan to do so this weekend.

Here's what I used:
Scotty 351 Rodmaster II Rod Holder
1 1/4" pvc pipe
1 1/4" pvc pipe T connector
and a 3" pvc pipe with caps. I just had this laying around the house but I'm thinking that a larger diameter would work much better.

The nice thing about using the scotty's is that you can turn them easily for transport.

In theory the pvc with caps should float. Like I said I may need to go to a larger diameter or even a different flotation device. But now that I have the design down it will be easy to switch out floatation devices.

I only had one rod holder so I had to order another. Wish me luck this weekend as I try it out
