Kershaw Blur

I have a problem. I collect pocket knives and can't stop buying them! Hey, most everyone has something that they enjoy and collect. Mine just happens to be knives and fishing. All kinds of knives, fixed blade, tactical, EDC, traditional, basically if it has a cutting edge I probably have one or have it on the want list!! Because of this, I rotate my EDC pretty often. My wife has noticed that despite owning hundreds of knives (I know,, remember, I told you I have a problem) I usually wind up carrying one of...

Gary Yamamoto "Kreature"

Swimming a jig has become one of my favorite fishing styles and I usually have one rigged up and ready on my yak especially if I'm on a lake with docks. Most of the versatility has been covered in other reviews so I'll just echo by saying this bait works in a multitude of ways. When used as a trailer on a jig it offers excellent movement, floatation and bulk which really slows the presentation when dropping or going slack while swimming the jig. Very nice bait. As mentioned in other reviews, it is...

KVD Sexy Frog

If you have seen any of my other reviews or forum posts, you will know right away that I'm a frog addict. Love throwing the frog into pads and grass more than any other fishing technique. Because of this, I've owned and thrown just about every brand and style of hollow topwater bait made. I can tell you, they all work. If you walk a frog through the pads, it's going to get strikes. The big difference in frogs comes down to three main points for me. Cast ability, durability and hook up percentage....

Great Frog,, but

There are some trade-offs with this lure so let's start with the good. Ok,, let's change the "good" to "great", because this is the best frog/mouse type bait that I have found at pulling bass out of thick grass and pads. The action just simply works whether pulling slowly in a constant retrieve, ripping like a buzz bait or (my favorite) doing the quick stop and go. The legs kick with the slightest twitch of the rod tip and I've never been able to pull it fast enough to over rev the action, it just kicks that...

Ozark Mountain Trading Company

It's really difficult to give a review of Ozark Mountain Trading Co without sounding like a fanboy. These folks are helpful and friendly to the point that you wonder if they even care about making sales. It's such a pleasant shopping experience and I enjoy stopping by all three of their stores. The kayak selection is really good and the staff takes extra time to make sure you find the yak that is best suited for you. They have a number of brands and will take you to the river or lake to paddle each one...

Trout Fishing on the White River - Calico Rock Public Access

One of my favorite trout fishing launching points on the famed White River. Fishing is AWESOME up and down stream from this launch. The only reason it is not 5 stars is that the launch is a bit rough as the ramp needs to be maintained a bit better. Not that big of a deal for us kayakers but felt that it needed to be noted.

A day with the chatterbait

While looking through my tackle, it's a rainy, cold winter day today and I'm bored, I came across two badly beat up z man chatterbaits and it took me back to warmer days and catching bass. Back in the early summer my son and I took the kayaks to a local oxbow lake for some largemouth bass fishing. My son is 12 and while a good fisherman, he does much better when throwing a bait that does not require a lot of concentration or detailed/complicated retrieves. Now I know that sounds a bit harsh but it's really...

Spyderco Salt Series Knives

The salt series of knives by Spyderco pushes the limits of rust-proof to the absolute edge. No pun intended! Spyderco accomplishes this by using .1% nitrogen instead of carbon to harden the steel. The result is a rust-proof knife that reaches a Rockwell hardness of 57-58rc, which provides a nice balance between edge retention and sharpen-ability. The three knives that I will focus on in this review are the Salt 1 plain edge, Salt 1 full serrated edge and Pacific Salt with the full serrated edge. I picked these three for two reasons. One,...
