Kayak angler takes home $1,500 in winnings

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (April 29, 2019) - Dave Jaskiewcz, of Wando, South Carolina, measured a combined limit of 52.50 inches to win the first regular-season event for the 2019 Atlantic Division of the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour on April 28 at Georgetown, South Carolina.
First-place finisher Dave Jaskiewcz displays his winning checks and plaques at the IFA Kayak Tour event at Georgetown, South Carolina, on April 28.

A very familiar name on top of the leaderboard, Jaskiewcz continues to dominate the IFA Kayak Tour's Atlantic Division. The angler adds another win for a total of six IFA Tour wins along with three Divisional Angler of the Year titles. This event was no different with Jaskiewcz besting the nearest competitor by more than five inches.

Heading to his home waters, Jaskiewcz made the trip to fish the Wando River and found jigs to be the hot bait.
"The morning was calm with minimal winds so the top-water bite wasn't working," said Jaskiewcz. "I switched to jigs and did well. Winds picked up and I found some protected areas and found some good fish."
The angler concentrated in the shallows and pitching to docks with Berkley Gulp! on jigs. Jaskiewcz found his trout around structure in 5-8 foot of water. The angler landed a 23-inch trout and a 29.50-inch redfish to take first place.
"Catching the 23-inch trout early took the pressure off and I was able to concentrate on getting a good red all day," Jaskiewcz said.

As part of the IFA Kayak Tour's contingency programs, Jaskiewcz's lunker trout caught on Berkley Gulp! won the $100 Berkley Gulp! Big Trout Award along with a $100 credit for Berkley products. For catching his trout on Spiderwire, the angler received a bulk spool of Spiderwire Invisibraid 30# line.
Second-place finisher Neal Ward Jr., of Leland, North Carolina, measured a combined length of 47.25 inches to win $345. The angler also fished the Wando River, traveling approximately two miles targeting his limit on both sides of the river with top-water baits and a 3-inch Berkley Gulp! mantis shrimp.
Andrew Imes, of Bolivia, North Carolina, measured a 26-inch redfish and an 18.50-inch trout to take third place. Imes fished the Oak Island area, slow-rolling baits. For his efforts, the angler took home $465 in winnings.
Ninth-place finisher Justin Carter landed his lone fish - a 33.13-inch redfish - on a 4-inch Berkley natural shrimp and won the $100 Berkley Gulp! Big Redfish award along with $100 in credit for Berkley product. Carter reeled in his catch using a PENN reel, winning the angler an additional $300 from PENN Reels.

The next stop for the IFA Kayak Tour is Crystal River, Florida, on May 19. Anglers who enter at least two events and compete in at least one event will be qualified for the 2019 IFA Kayak Tour Championship.
The fastest-growing kayak fishing tournament trail in the country, the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour events are catch-photograph-release tournaments, offering inshore kayak anglers from a multitude of states the opportunity to participate in competitive fishing tournaments with low entry fees and minimal travel requirements.
