NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (August 21, 2018) - Steve Lessard, of Geismar, Texas, measured a combined limit of 57.50 inches to win the second regular-season event for the 2018 Texas Division of the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour presented by Hobie Fishing on August 19 at Orange, Texas.
A longtime IFA Kayak Tour angler, Lessard has experienced a great amount of success, winning multiple regular-season events and the IFA Championship. Lessard made the long trip from Orange back to Louisiana to find his fish.

The angler reported a west wind, which dirtied the water and made for a tough trout bite. Lessard threw top-water baits for trout and Berkley Gulp! 5-inch curly tail for his redfish.

For his first-place finish, Lessard won $1,000 in cash along with a Power-Pole Micro Anchor. His 39.50-inch redfish was the longest of the tournament and was caught on Berkley Gulp!, netting Lessard an additional $100 in cash and $100 credit for Berkley Gulp!, courtesy of Berkley Gulp!. The angler also won the $300 PENN Reels award for landing his lunker with a PENN reel.

Second-place finisher Jeff Robinson, of Lafayette, Louisiana, also returned to Louisiana to fish the Grand Isle area. The angler measured a 37-75-inch redfish and a 17.50-inch trout to win $260.

Michael Clements, of Houston, Texas, measured a combined total of 27.75 inches to take third place and $140 in winnings. The angler fished around the Bolivar peninsula with top-water baits. He reported tough conditions that made for a tough trout bite but did find many redfish.

"The morning started out windy and spotty rain," said Clements. "The tide was ripping out. The showers made for tough fishing, but I caught plenty of redfish. I fished hard and it paid off. I can't wait for the championship and next season."

Sixth-place finisher Fil Spencer measured an 18.50-inch trout, which won the angler the $100 Berkley Gulp! Big Trout award.

The next stop for the IFA Kayak Tour is Ruskin, Florida, on September 16. Anglers who enter at least two events and compete in at least one event will be qualified for the 2018 IFA Kayak Tour Championship.

The fastest-growing kayak fishing tournament trail in the country, the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour Presented by Hobie Fishing events are catch-photograph-release tournaments, offering inshore kayak anglers from a multitude of states the opportunity to participate in competitive fishing tournaments with low entry fees and minimal travel requirements.
