Ohio valley kayak anglers looking to participate in next year’s Hobie Fishing Worlds V rejoice! Hobie announces their return to Kentucky Dam Village State Park May 29-31 2015. This is the first qualifying event announced for the 2015 Hobie Fishing Worlds tournament. The winner of this event will receive automatic entry and airfare to compete as a member of Team USA. See below press release for full details.

OCEANSIDE, California – December 18, 2014 - Hobie announces that the second annual Hobie Bass Open, presented by Kentucky Lake Convention Visitor’s Bureau, will take place at Kentucky Dam Village State Park, May 29-31, 2015. The Open will be one of a series of U.S. and Canadian qualifying events for the 2015 Hobie Fishing Worlds V. The winner will not only take the Open title, but will be invited to join 2014 Hobie Fishing World’s Champion, Steve Lessard, and 2014 IFA Champion, Benton Parrott, in representing Team USA at the World’s next fall. Competitors will also vie for cash payouts and sponsored prizes.

The event is a catch, photograph and release (CPR) tournament where anglers measure and photograph their top three bass during each of the two days, to be scored by total aggregate length. Eligible species include largemouth, spotted and smallmouth bass on human powered kayaks. Anglers are invited to register for the event by logging onto http://2015hobiebassopen.eventbrite.com.

A Hobie Fun Fest consumer event will be held simultaneously off the Kentucky Dam beach. Hobie invites all competitors as well as the general public to bring their family and friends and join in the festivities that will be held Saturday and Sunday, May 30-31. Fun seekers will have the opportunity to demo Hobie Islands, kayaks and SUP’s.

The complete schedule of qualifying events together with a date and location for the Worlds will be announced over the next few months and posted on HobieFishing.com.

Man, this tournament is in my old backyard of western KY. My parents house is just 20 miles from Kentucky Dam Village. I wish this tournament was at least one week later. My daughter's last day of school is May 28th and it would take me at least two days to get there. It sounds like a good fun weekend and I wish I could make it.
