The Kayak Fishing ClassicS will hold their first Panama City, FL tournament on April 5 as part of their 2014 series expansion. The Northern Florida division will have two tournaments this year: one in Panama City, and one in Pensacola in July. The ClassicS recently opened up the series to include SUP anglers as well as kayaks. The Buccaneer Beach Motel and Bar & Grill will be the event and lodging host.

The Top Ten anglers at each ClassicS tournament receive awards. The anglers select one sponsor prize at a time and in order of finish, from the awards table, which is loaded with pretty cool gear from some mighty big names in the sport. Old Town Canoes & Kayaks, Ocean Kayak, and KC Kayaks will be awarding a total of twelve kayaks this year, and all of the anglers will have an equal shot at these fantastic boats. To qualify, the anglers need to fish any two tournaments in the ten-tournament series to receive an invitation to the Kayak Fishing ClassicS Invitational National Championship in October. There will be six kayaks awarded at the national event this year.

In November, the Kayak Fishing ClassicS will hold the first-ever Johnson Outdoors World Championship & Kayak Fishing Festival at Fort DeSoto, FL. There will be six more kayaks awarded and raffled, along with sponsor gear prizes, to raise money for the St. Jude Children’s Hospital. This will be an open event, and everyone is invited to attend what is working up to be a great event.

The fishing in Panama City is known to be outstanding, and the contestants of the Panama City Classic will be going after redfish and trout. Anglers may photo weigh in two of each, and scoring will be the total length of the four fish. Contestants must check in at the weigh in and fill out their score card to get credit for having fished, which will count toward qualifying for the national. This is an artificial lures only, CPR (catch-photo-release) event.

Anglers may launch right from the Bucaneer Beach Motel beach, or from one of a dozen other official launch points are on the ClassicS tournament page at www.KayakFishingClassicS.com. Anglers will register for the tournament on the website, and then call the motel to reserve their room and receive the rate discount. Contestants need to inform the motel that they are registered for the Panama City Classic for this discount.
Contestants may pick up their official fishing token on tournament morning at the motel at 6:00am, and will be required to be signed in for weigh in at the Buccaneer Beach Motel, Bar & Grill no later than 2:30pm. Scoring will begin at that time, while anglers eat some tasty food and enjoy a beverage or two.

“Staying at the motel is going to be great. There is little reason to do a lot of driving after you check in, and if one wishes to launch from the motel beach you won’t have to drive at all for the weekend. Nice!” said Captain Pat, national director of tournaments for the Kayak Fishing ClassicS.

The ClassicS staff will be there for a meet and greet 7:00pm Friday at the Buccaneer Bar & Grill on the beach. See you there, and good fishing.
