The This year’s EKFT kicked off at the Captains meeting Friday night September 27, 2013 at Brus Room in Pompano Beach, FL. The exciting weekend included great food, and lots of prizes including a Lanai kayak, GoPro camera, Costa sunglasses, vacation packages, and over $10,000 in raffle prizes, plus free goodies for all the registered anglers!

Forecasts all week were calling for bad weather; luckily for Extreme, it never came! Eighty two anglers launched from Pompano Beach just north of the pier Saturday morning, all pumped up and ready to win! Many had made the trip all the way from Georgia, North Carolina, Texas, Orlando, and Tampa to compete in the EKFT September SLAM!

The festivities began not long after the anglers’ departure into the calm morning seas. Tents were set up all around the big stage. Free entertainment, food, drinks, and games were part of the distraction as the crowd waited anxiously on the beach for the anglers to return. Brian Nelli ended up being one of the last anglers to bring his fish to the weigh-in station - everyone was in shock!

Brian ended up winning with a total weight of 34.3lbs. and the biggest pelagic fish. He won the coveted trophy made by Crown Trophy, $3000 cash from main sponsor Turbo USA, Costa sunglasses, the Engel SUP paddleboard worth $1,599, and a Guy Harvey necklace. Joe Kraatz won second place with 24.5lbs, and took home a Hobie “Outback” kayak from one of EKFT’s main sponsors Nautical Ventures, Costa sunglasses, $500 cash, and a plaque from Crown Trophy.

Rob Rodriguez took third place with 22.1lbs, scooping up a Hobie “Revo” kayak from Nautical Ventures, Costa sunglasses, and a plaque. Austin Collins netted fourth place with 15.7lbs, and won the Imagine Wizard Angler SUP paddleboard from Adventure Sports, a Penn “Spinfisher V ssv6500” reel from Blue Marlin Chronicles, Costa sunglasses, and a plaque. Andy Brown took fifth with 13lbs, and was happy to receive Costa sunglasses and a check for $200. Brad Schwartz won the Trash Can Slam with a huge barracuda. He took home a pair of Costa sunglasses and a plaque!

Extreme had another amazing event. The Extreme team thanks all the sponsors, volunteers, help boats, and anglers for making the September SLAM a complete success! Stay tuned for the kickoff of the next Extreme Series in 2014. The first event will be “The Battle in the Bahamas” in Freeport, Grand Bahamas!
