2013 was the ninth time New England Kayak Fishing held its Striper Shootout. This annual tournament brings kayak anglers from all over the Northeast and Canada together for three days of fishing the waters around Salem, MA in search of striped bass. This year we had a record number of anglers, with 174 paid entries in the four divisions; Open, Artificial, Fly, and Junior. The official start of the tournament was Friday at 5:00pm, although many people arrived earlier to get more time on the water...

It finished with a Catch-Photo-Release weigh-in and BBQ catered by Galindo's Roadside Roasters at the Winter Island Park Pavilion on Sunday at noon. The weather was perfect all weekend with light winds and warm days.

This tournament is as much about the camaraderie we share as kayak anglers as it is about catching big fish. The fact that we can do it while supporting some worthy charities makes all that much better. This year, the charities supported were Heroes on the Water (HOW), Casting for Recovery (CFR), Greater Salem Boys & Girls Club, the Friends of Winter Island, and Sofia’s Fund (which supports children and their families battling cancer at the Floating Hospital for Children). We also could not put this together without all the great sponsors we have. This year we were able to raffle off four kayaks donated by Old Town Kayaks, Jackson Kayaks, and Hobie, as well as lots of other great prizes donated by the following companies:
