On August 11, 2013, some of the finest kayak anglers in the mid-Atlantic will gather in Swansboro, NC for the Airborne Angler Adventures Yak-Master Classic. The tournament will benefit Heroes on the Water and St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and the entry fee is a modest $25. Competitors are to receive captain’s bags and shirts, and there will be raffles as well.

Anglers will target redfish, trout, and flounder, and there are many divisions in the Yak-Master Classic: overall winner (longest three-fish total), biggest fish, smallest fish, odd catch of the day, and redfish with the most spots. The format is Catch-Photo-Release. Prizes include cash, trophies, and of course some great kayak gear.

The Yak-Master Classic is an artificials-only event, but commercially-sold pork trailers or scents may be used. Only one casting, spin casting, spinning rod and reel or fly rod may be used at any one time per angler.

For more information and to register, visit: www.airborne-angler-adventures.com or their Facebook Event.

Ben Hoover

Ben is an avid kayak angler who plies the waters of Hampton Roads, Virginia with fly and light tackle. A transplanted Yankee, he developed a true taste for the salt after moving south of the Mason-Dixon. He is a proud HOW volunteer and remains loyal to http://www.flyfishersparadise.com/, his employer throughout college. Ben can be found on the water under cover of darkness, waving a stick in a plastic boat. He is slowly but surely learning to gear fish.
