While the Covid-19 epidemic appears to have caused big-name fishing tournaments to be postponed, this hasn't prevented everyday anglers from finding some solace on the lakes, rivers, and reservoirs that remain open. Aqua-Vu has decided that since a lot of other events have moved to the online space there's no reason why the same couldn't be done with a fishing tournament.
This has prompted them to create a "virtual" fishing tournament, which according to them, can be entered by anyone with a rod and a reel and a few bucks.
The "Fishing for Dreams" online fishing tournament kicked off on Saturday, May 16. The Aqua-Vu launched tournament is provided by Fish Donkey and is for the benefit of the Outdoor Dream Foundation. The tournament is set to run for three weeks in total and participating anglers stand a chance to win a whole host of incredible prizes. These include everything from Underwater Viewing Systems by Aqua-Vu to tackle packages from Z-Man Fishing and much more.
Kolt Ringer, president of Aqua-Vu, has stated that the online fishing tournament is a neat way to generate awareness for the Outdoor Dream Foundation. It is also perfect for giving to this tremendous charitable organization seeing how challenging fundraising is at this time. Ringer has added that not only can anyone enter and compete by fishing their favorite bass lakes, but that one-hundred percent of the entry fees will benefit Outdoor Dream.
For anyone not familiar with the Outdoor Dream Foundation, they have helped more than 1,000 and their families enjoy the great outdoors since 2004. The organization grants outdoor adventures to children and youth who are under the age of 21 and are diagnosed with terminal or life-threatening illnesses. They are a non-profit organization that is one-hundred percent volunteer-driven. Their mentoring program also provides fellowship with youth and families in similar circumstances all while giving them the chance to learn and enjoy the traditions of the outdoors.
Anyone interested in entering the Fishing for Dreams tournament can download the free FishDonkey app (https://www.fishdonkey.com/) on their Wi-Fi devices and search for the online tournament. A $30 registration fee is required, which is essentially a donation to the Outdoor Dream Foundation. The tournament is currently running and will continue until Sunday, June 7.
Fish Donkey, with its app, is a leader in hosting online fishing tournaments, including high-school fishing leagues. The app has a simple-to-use interface for measuring, recording, and logging each fish into live leaderboards. Anti-cheating technology is also employed for the authentication of each catch.
Those who are unable to fish can still donate directly to the Outdoor Dream Foundation by visiting their website (https://outdoordream.org/).
