St. Croix Rod has announced Steve Self is joining them as the latest member of their leadership team.

Steve, who is a fishing-industry veteran with 35 years of experience in the industry, is stepping into the role of Director of Sales. This means that he will be working closely with other members of the St. Croix Leadership Team and report directly to Scott Forristall, the CEO of St. Croix. In addition to leading the St. Croix Sales team, Steve will also be managing operations at the company's Factory Store and Customer Center, as well as create, coordinate, and implement national sales plans.

Steve's 35 years of experience in the outdoor industry means that he is well prepared for his new role as it includes more than 20 years of fishing tackle sales leadership. After working for South Bend Sporting Goods as well as Zebco as National Sales Manager in the past, Steve recently served as Vice President of Sales for Maurice Sporting Goods.

According to Scott Forristall, it is Steve's strong work ethic and competitive nature that has contributed to his proven record of success in sales and management. He also pointed out that Steve is trustworthy, approachable and a team player with high integrity, which are all factors that will serve him well in his new key position.

Steve Self has stated that it is the 70-plus-year history and family ownership of St. Croix that is appealing to him. This is no surprise as his employer for the 32 years prior to his arrival at St. Croix, Maurice Sporting Goods is also a family-owned business with a long history. Self believes that it is the rich tradition and heritage of the companies that add real value to a brand. He mentioned that it is the fact that St. Croix's products and customer service continue to get better and better even after 70 years in business that has made it an easy decision for him to work there.

Although Steve and his wife of 32 years, Pam, raised their three children in Illinois they are no strangers to Northern Wisconsin. Steve explained that the family has been vacationing in Northern Wisconsin for the past 30 years, so Northwoods is already their second home. He began his duties as Director of Sales at St. Croix on February 17, 2020, and we wish him the best of luck in his new position.
