When I make a major purchase I find myself looking online at manufacturers sites, forums etc, and I did the same when I started looking for my first Fishing Kayak. I then went to the large stores and found they were pushing a store brand rather than looking at what I needed for what I wanted to do. I was reminded that Kittery Trading Post was hosting the New England Paddle Sports Show in the neighboring town of Durham NH and that all items at the show would be marked down and would be tax free as they were being sold in NH. I went to the show and was able to meet with all of the manufacturers reps who took the time to welcome me into the sport and talk me through the pros and cons of their products. I then went a month later to the demo days hosted by KTP and was able to meet with the same people again, and this time spend as much time on the water as I wanted to decide which was the best boat for me. I made my decision and have been very happy because I spent the time and KTP spent the time with me to make sure I had the best boat for me. Note to NH residents you can give KTP your license and they are able to sell Yaks tax free to NH residents. Everyone gets tax free at the Paddle Sports show in April and on both the show and demo day boats were 15% off and 20 for scratch and dent. On top of all that when I got the boat out of the warehouse area They loaded it on my roof rack system and then the Thule rep came out and helped me dial my system in so that I had the best support for the trip home and for future trips with the boat on the roof.
