Outdoorplay was founded in 1995. The kayaking business started as a one man kayak school based out of a garage in Salem, Oregon. With the focus of introducing new people to the sport, Outdoorplay quickly grew a loyal customer base in the Northwest and developed into a thriving retail operation focused on delivering world class customer service, instruction and expertise. When the business went online in 1998, it became a national presence in paddlesports retail.

Great Experience with Outdoorplay and Malone Trailer

I shopped kayak trailers and decided on a Malone Microsport. Outdoorplay had the best price and free shipping, so that was a no-brainer. I ordered a the trailer online and had it (in six boxes) in about a week. The only thing wrong with the order (which was shipped directly from Malone) was that it had an extra spare tire and was missing two of the four sets of J-hooks that I ordered with the trailer. I called customer service at Malone (talked to Rachel, who was very nice) and had the new J-hooks in 4 days. They said to just keep the extra spare tire. Very good experience.

Refund nightmare

The return process was ridiculoud. After several emails, ended up having to call them, and was told to call Amazon, which was incorrect. Called back and had to download a form, fill it out, ship it myself, and pay a restocking fee. Not only do they not provide the return shipping label, they sent it priority mail, so using the box it came in costs almost $20, while finding an odd-shaped box or brown paper to wrap this priority mail box is a hassle. When I called, they claimed to be a small "mom & pop" business, but on Amazon, they claim to be "one of the largest outdoor retailers in the country." Either way, I don't recommend them. Had a good experience with SouthWinds Kayaks.

BUYER BEWARE!

First I was told I would have this in 7-10 days. - About 2 months to receive.

Kayak came with water inside. Small amount came out when I removed the plug. Most of the water is still in there. Told it is weighed before shipping and weight was correct. Lie, water weighs a lot, would have shown a difference.

They wanted pictures and model number - sent

Send back the kayak, I pay freight and I have to get a box big enough to fit it

Now I have to talk to the company out of the country. Total bullshit.

Horrible customer service, they act nice, then stab you in the back. BUYER BEWARE

Selling customer returned products

I bought a jogging stroller from Outdoorplay. Stroller that I received was previously returned by someone else. The box was opened, had multiple shipping labels from previous buyer, stroller was unpacked, plastic removed. It was not a manufacturer sealed and brand new stroller. Customer service rep told me to send pictures if there was something wrong with the stroller. To me being a customer return is wrong, it should be noted in product description. Ask if you are actually getting brand new and manufacturer sealed item if you are buying from them. Otherwise you may get a ptoduct that someone didn't was before

Do not buy there from outside US.

Beware that this company does not handle exports so to mae it go throught customs without additional cost as amazon and most online shop do. I bought 3 pairs of socks from Canada. Normally amazon would charge 5% GST and it goes through customs in no time and without additionnal cost. But with Outdoorplay I am charged 20% + 10$ for customs fees and the package took a long time to arrive. Overal : Shipping cost : 25$ + 40$ custom. Had to exchange one item : 25$ to send + you have to apy for the shipping again with them if you exchange, so I have to pay another 25$. Total shipping cost for socks to be exchanges: 115$

Pros & Cons

Pros:
maybe OK if you buy from US
Cons:
Do not buy there from outside US Exchange are possible but very expensive
