Daiwa Ballistic EX 2500

The Daiwa Ballistic EX is a great spinning reel.

I have used this reel in both salt and freshwater and it has performed flawlessly every time. The 10 bearings give this reel a smooth retrieve. I have thrown everything from 1/16 jig heads with a plastic on it to 3/4 oz spinnerbaits (changing rods of course) and it has never let me down no matter what I am throwing.

Magseal technology is great, but will require factory service instead of self servicing if you normally do that.

I have heard people complain that it is a "plastic" reel and that it wont hold up. I have caught many fish on this reel and have never thought it was flexing during the fight. There is definitely a different feeling from an all metal reel. Notice I said different and not bad. I am perfectly content using what some folks say is a "plastic" reel.

It is not a cheap reel, but if you are looking for a reel in the 200-250 category do yourself a favor and check this one out. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Ballistic Testing Complete

This might be my favorite reel I have ever owned. These new ballistics have a mag sealed body... (Science and technology talk)... Here is the down and dirty. I held off on this review until I could run it through some bull reds. Now that is done here is my take on this reel. I got the 3000 size and paired it with 280 yards of Sufix 832 20lb braid and a TFO Medium Heavy Tactical rod. I use this rod for top water plugs and jigs over 1/4oz. This reel has a very smooth drag as well as a very smooth retrieve. Its line capacity is great because it can also be used for some offshore applications. The ballistic reel has about the same weight of a Shimano Stradic FJ when comparing sizes. The reel sizes run a little big compared to other brands. A ballistic 3000 is like a Penn 3500 for example. I have had zero mechanical or cosmetic issues with this reel and has shown zero signs of wear over the past few months of heavy use. My biggest con on this reel is that it cannot currently be serviced at home due to the mag seal. With that I will say if it needs to be opened up with in 12 months of purchase then it need to get a warranty repair. I highly recommend putting this reel on the list of reels to look at when shopping in the $150 to $220 price range.

Smooth and Solid!

My new Diawa Ballistic EX Spinning reel preforms perfectly. It's better then my Shimano Stradic, I'll never go back after using this guy. Smooth ans solid construction were the first things I noticed about this reel. Everything fits tightly together, you don't feel any play in the handle, it is solid as a rock. This reel feels like is should be double the cost! Get his reel you will not be disappointed!
