Pros & Cons

Lots of pockets and lots of chest bulk

The pockets are well thought out for use when fishing, including the place for fishing pliers. This includes the design which has a front and rear pocket on each side.

The downside to all these pockets is a bulkier fit than with the Stohlquist Fisherman PFD, though the F-Spec provides a better means to carry a VHF radio.

The flotation material is also concentrated in the front of the vest to a much grater degree with the MTI F-Spec PFD than with almost any other. A lot bulkier than the Stohlquist which is in turn a lot bulkier in the chest than the NRS Chinook vest. In terms of comfort the Chinook is one of the best though it is the worst in terms of providing for a VHF radio.

The chest bulk of the MTI F-Spec makes it one of the worst to be wearing when trying to get back into your boat from the water.

MTI Dio F Spec for every Yak Angler

The MTI Dio F Spec PFD is one of the most comfortable PFD's on the market. I wear it all day while fishing off my kayak. With its high back it really works well with high back seats as the padding is not interfering with your seat back. This makes for a much more comfortable seating position for all day comfort. It has 6 adjustment points along with neoprene padded shoulder straps.

The storage features of this PFD are excellent and unique. Being a saltwater angler one of my important safety gear is my Handheld VHF Radio. The Dio F Spec has a built in pocket for the radio so this way it is on you at all times, not clipped to the boat or laying somewhere where it is not easily accessible.

The sheath for the pliers on the front is key. You can leash your pliers to you and just reach un Velcro and your pliers are always handy. In addition to that there is an area of material seen in for running a pin through for a fishing license or a retractable leash. This lets you pin to the PFD without damaging it.

The PFD also has 2 nice pockets and a fly bridge. That's a drop down work surface. Also has a plastic D ring at the bottom for attaching whatever you would like.

It comes in 2 different colors which are very bright in terms of visibility. A High Viz Yellow and an Alum Gray which is more like a gray white.

The zip up is a function that all PFD's should have as it is quick to get on.
