M.I.T. 100 Automatic Inflatable Life Jacket

PFD Make & Model

MSRP ($):

The M.I.T. 100 Automatic Inflatable Life Jacket is a PFD from Mustang Survival that makes use of Membrane Inflatable Technology. What this means is that the PFD is basically lighter and more flexible than some of the bulky PFDs that are available on the market. The reduced weight of the M.I.T. also makes it easy to wear and comfortable, so you don’t have to sacrifice any range of movement in order to stay safe out on the water.

Since it is an automatic inflatable life jacket, the M.I.T 100 doesn’t need to be deployed manually in the event that you fall overboard. Instead, the jacket will inflate as soon as it is submerged in water as well as automatically self-right the wearer. This has the obvious advantage of ensuring that you don’t drown if you lose consciousness at any point while on your kayak and end up in the water.

The M.I.T 100 features a built-in, arming status window, so you can check at all times whether the inflator is properly armed and ready to be used. Rearming kits are available for this jacket and can be purchased separately if required. As a fall-back, the M.I.T 100 can also be inflated manually, either by pulling the yellow lanyard that that is included or by blowing into the oral inflation tube.

Anglers who spend a lot of time out on the water will really appreciate the comfort of the M.I.T 100. It has a 500-Denier Cordura shell construction, which makes it durable and suitable for use in any type of weather. It uses a single bucket design, so no complicated procedures are needed for getting it on or off. Since it has a one fold design, it can just as easily be repacked after you are done using it.

If you enjoy fishing in rougher waters and require a PFD that not only offers better buoyancy than most foam PFDs, but is also able to inflate automatically then the M.I.T 100 has everything you need. While it doesn’t have any angling specific features, its light weight and comfort already makes it worth your while.
