MTI Adventurewear Fisher

PFD Make & Model

MSRP ($):

The Fisher by MTI Adventurewear is the most affordable PFD in their range, but this doesn’t mean that it skimps on quality or features. According to MTI, the Fisher was designed with the purpose of combining a US Coast Guard approved life jacket with a great fishing vest, which is something that they have definitely pulled off. The Fisher is USCG strength tested at 50 mph, which means it is more than adequate for kayak angling.

Of particular interest to kayak anglers are the four front pockets that can be found on the Fisher. These provide plenty of storage space and ensures that you don’t have to keep bending down to grab gear from your tackle box. The design of the pockets also means that they don’t get in the way when you are paddling or casting. While the pockets will hold most of the necessities, the Fisher also has D-rings at the front and back for attaching additional gear.

In addition to the convenient pockets, the Fisher also provides a comfortable fit, which is essential for kayak angling. It has a center buckle closure and the sides as well as shoulder straps can be adjusted until you have a perfect fit. Some anglers prefer the convenience of a zip over buckles, but this usually comes down to a matter of taste. If you are used to an automatic inflatable PFD the Fisher is going to feel a bit bulky at first, but it makes up for it with the additional storage options.

The two biggest advantages that the Fisher has is its ample storage space as well as its low price point. The fact that it is strength tested at such high speeds mean you can also use it if you enjoy other water activities, such as using a jet ski or water ski. The MTI Fisher is available in either green or gray colors and is completely PVC free.
