Stohlquist Keeper

PFD Make & Model

Brand:
Stohlquist
Model:
Keeper
MSRP ($):
149.95

There is no reason to spend a fortune on a PFD as most of the cheaper models are able to offer the same level of safety and protection as the more expensive ones. However, this doesn’t mean that spending some additional cash on a more expensive model is a waste. For proof, look no further than the Stohlquist Keeper, a PFD that sells for in the region of $150, but packs enough features to ensure you don’t end up with buyers remorse.

Like many PFDs that are aimed at kayak anglers, the Keeper features a soft, thin back panel. This ensures a comfortable fit and enables you to wear it even when sitting on the tall seats or chairs found on modern kayak fishing boats. The Keeper has an ergonomic “WRAPTURE™” shaped torso and, thanks to the extra soft buoyancy foam throughout, it will keep you afloat if you fall in the water. Larger anglers know how tricky it can be to find a PFD that is not only comfortable, but fits well, so the graded sizing of the Keeper ensures a more appropriate fit no matter what your size is.

Safety is extremely important when kayak fishing, but you also don’t want something that is going to be a nuisance and get in the way all the time. There is no such worries with the Keeper as it has a cross-chest cinch harness to ensure zero ride-up. It also has ventilated shoulder and pack pads for added comfort. In addition, the eight points of adjustment on the Keeper means you are guaranteed a secure and personalized fit. It is also a define plus that the Keeper has a stylish looking design and incorporates reflective material on the front as well as back for enhanced visibility.

The Stohlquist Keeper doesn’t just offer safety and comfort either. The front of this PFD features multiple zippered pockets that are easy to access thanks to zippers. The internal organization and size of these pockets also make them handy for holding larger items like fly or tackle boxes. For those small accessories that you want close at hand you can use the expandable neoprene pockets on this PFD. Then, for everything else like hemostats, retractors, nippers and more, the Keeper offers multiple mounting points. Finally, the Keeper has hand warmer pockets behind the front gear pockets, which is something any angler in colder climates will appreciate.

Investing in a Stohlquist Keeper is slightly more expensive than other products in their range, but definitely worth it from a safety, comfort and convenience standpoint.
