The Scotty Anchor Lock is designed to be used with one hand. Pull back on the rope to release the rope locking mechanism and let the rope slide through your fingers. When the anchor has reached your desired depth simply lower the rope and the locking mechanism automatically engages...ingenious!

Scotty Anchor Lock

I don't anchor a lot and wasn't feeling ambitious enough to install an anchor trolley. I also already had Scotty deck mounts on my yak so this was a no-brainer add-on for me. It works well for my purposes but can't really trim the boat like you could with an anchor trolley. I'd say it's a great add-on if you're already vested in the Scotty system but I don't think I'd go out of my way to add a Scotty deck mount solely for that purpose.
