Good paddle for the price

Nice, tough paddle for the money. I have used and abused this paddle over the last few years, and it has held up with barely a scratch. Hook retriever notch is handy, but hard to use in water more than a few feet deep. Would recommend this paddle to anyone who wants a tough paddle with some decent features without breaking the bank. Tight Lines!

I bought the 260 cm for my Jackson Cuda 12’as I paddle in the raised seating position and have transducer mounted over the side and within reach to remove weeds. The carbon shaft has a slight ovalized area in the place where it should be gripped, nice. The built in ruler is also handy feature for quick reference and then throw’em back. The two piece snap together spline is tight and quick together and breaks down as easy, no wobble in joint. Priced at about $145.00 us dollars, I think it is a great upgrade from the entry level paddle and is over looked by higher priced paddles that claim they are superior. Over all, makes for a nice pleasurable day of paddling while fishing.
I have not yet used the hook removable built into the blade yet and I’m sure I will BUT, I will say if you use the side that has the hook retrieval and stick it under any type of bungee or rope, that you will be sticking under a bungee or rope, IT WILL CATCH & HANG UP. I found the on the Jackson Coda 12 that if I put the paddle under the rod tip protector on the bow, it is perfect and never had another problem. That would be the one and only con/problem I could foresee for a new user to the Bending Branches Classic Paddle but easily corrected by placement of the paddle.

Bending Branches Angler Classic

I decided to upgrade my paddle after doing some research I decided this was the best bang for my buck. All I can say is wow I never thought a paddle could make such a difference. I got the 240CM and it fits my Cuda and I to a tee. It increased my speed along with handling. Since I fish a lot of Heavy cover so the lure retrieval notch will pay for its self over time. This is one of the best upgrades I have ever done.

Good Beginner Paddle

This was my first paddle ever. I have since uprgaded to a full carbon Aquabound. You can usually find them cheaper than MSRP, but for what it is listed for I think you can find better. It will take whatever you throw at it. Built like a tank. Great beginner paddle.

Bending Branches "Angler Classic" Paddle

This is a definite step up from an entry level paddle. It has a large diameter fiberglass reinforced nylon shaft that is easy to grip. The shaft has a measuring stick imprinted on it in both metric and English systems and effective drip rings. The shaft has the typical separation button as most paddles. The mechanism is well built and durable, better than most entry level paddles. The mechanism has extra holes so that the blade angles can be adjusted from 0º & 60º - Left or Right.

The blades at 95 sqin are large enough to provide force when needed but easy enough to paddle all day without over tiring me. The blades come in two different color option depending on your preference to be seen or not spook fish. The options are Sage Green or Sunset Orange.

Now that the description is done, how does it work? The weight is 35 ounces total. Not the lightest by any means but not heavy for a paddle at this price point. The blades are firm with minimal flexure under normal paddling. they will flex if pushed hard but they are stiff enough to dig in if and when needed. The paddle digs in and provides good energy per stoke but is not overly tiring. It is more than tough enough to handle normal Kayak fishing needs and then some. It has been stepped on and even run over with no substantial damage other than some superficial scratching.

I would recommend this paddle to others. If you are looking for a reasonably priced step up paddle that is tough with good paddling characteristics then take a look at the Bending Branches "Angler Classic" Paddle.

The only reason I did not give this paddle a 5 out of 5 is there are better paddles out there just not at this price. One is the BB Angler Pro.

PS - sometimes you can find them on sale for $99. At this price you get a mid better paddle at an entry level price. A real bargain.
