The SPRO Little John 50 crank bait features a silent weight transfer system which allows kayak anglers to cast longer despite the lure’s small size. It ideal for use in shallow target zones, 3-5 ft.

These are truly great crankbaits! They have a great color selection and are made with very high quality components. I have caught a lot of smallies on both the Little Johns and Little John MDs. Some said price is an issue but they only run roughly $10 which to me is average price of a hard lure.
A few points that make this one of the top crank baits in my opinion:
-All of mine have “ran true” out of the box (no adjustments needed to make it swim straight). They run pretty close to the advertised depths depending on your line selection.
-Durable (alongside numerous bass several pike and musky have been hooked on this small little crank. They held up really well with just a few paint flakes coming off)
-Colour selections are great, other versions offered to cover the water column as well.
This is my go to bait when it comes to pulling out a crank. It's a flat out fish catcher. On my local waters (St. Clair, Erie) "spooky nasty shad" and "Clear Chartreuse" are the ticket colours. Whether you are bumping the bait into cover or just casting and retrieving in open water this lure will attract fish.
The price could probably be lower.... But it's still cheaper than the "high end" cranks which get left in the dust when this little john gets tied onto my line.
Had a lot of success with this bait this past season. Caught plenty of fish running it in shallow water near timber and bushes. Fish seem to want to crush it when they hit on it. Caught my biggest fish of the season last year on this bait so it will forever be in my tackle box.
I really enjoy SPRO products and this isn't an exception. Craftsmanship is excellent and they offer plenty of colors for you to choose from. Highly recommend.
Little pricey but I don't mind to pay for quality.
Spro Little John 50 squarebill crankbait. This is an excellent crankbait to throw when 3-5 ft is the depth you are targeting. They make other versions but this review is for the original. The bait has a soft tungsten weighting system that allows it to cast like a rocket and to stay true on the retrieve. All of my baits run straight and true right out of the box...ne need to "tune" it to get it right.
This is a tough little bait. I love to throw it right into felled trees and along rip rap. It bounces off of all of this and continues to run straight. No damage to the lip of the crank either. The majority of my bites come right as it deflects off of something. You can also control the depth that the lure runs with rod tip placement and line size. I was able to regularly get it to run to 5 feet and with a little adjustment of the rod tip keep it around 3-4 feet.
This is really a great bait that can take a lickin'. It is a bit pricy at around 10 bucks a lure, but the benefits of the lure certainly justify the cost. If you are looking for a shallow running crankbait, do yourself a favor and check out the Spro line and give them a shot.
