Sea Island Sport - Chesapeake Light Craft

My stepfather recently returned home from a trip to Baltimore bringing the Chesapeake Light Craft catalog home for me.  Now I have to admit that when I first saw this catalog I thought that the concept of building my own boat was very cool but that it probably wouldn’t work out for me since most of these kayaks are Sit-in-Kayaks (SinKS) made more for touring than for fishing.  That was before I turned the page and came across the Sea Island Sport!   This is a do-it-yourself Sit-on-Top kayak that we YakAnglers can utilize while kayak fishing.

Needing a project to keep you occupied this winter, well this may just be the thing that you need, these kayaks are sold in kits and are designed for the Do-it-Yourselfer.

The Sea Island Sport is 15'6" long and features a pleasing shape, attractive from every angle, with a unique contrasting deck made out of Sapele plywood. The reddish Sapele contrasts with the more honey-colored BS 1088 Okoume in the hull. Sharp-eyed observers will note the similarity to CLC’s popular Eric Schade-designed Shearwater line, which have a similar cambered Sapele deck and tumbled-home sides.
