According to the people from the Johnson Outdoor booth, pedal powered kayaks are all the rage. It makes sense, as a pedal-powered boat allows you to fish hands-free.
We had a look at the Predator PDL, of which the PDL drive is a sealed system and easy to remove to make the kayak easier to transport. The boat has a hatch in front for extra storage and includes plates in the front and the rear that make it easy to mount things to instead of having to drill holes in the boat. There is also ample space for tackle boxes at the back.
The Malibu from Ocean Kayak is the ideal pedal kayak for the wife and kids and is more aimed for recreational use. The tankwell in the front is perfect for a dog to sit on. The seat is and settings are similar to that of the Predator and this kayak comes with rails to mount accessories. At the back, the Malibu has a jumpseat with cupholders and finger grooves to make it easier for a child to hold on to. As with the Predator, the Malibu's PDL unit and the seat are removable.
