So with conditions looking pretty good we hit the water early and headed towards the sunrise. We slowly paddled our way across the lagoon looking for tails or other signs of fish. Once we got in the area we wanted to be we started casting around the schools of mullet and thats when I caught a couple of rat reds. Meanwhile, Sarah was casting in what seemed like the perfect areas but not having any luck yet, so we switched poles to see if bait color would make a difference.
Well bait color didn't really matter as a few cast later I land this nice 23 inch red.
After a few photos and a quick revival we were back to fishing. I took the next few minutes to coach Sarah up a little and reassure her today was the day. As I was explaining how to retrieve her lure it happens. FISH ON!!!! Finally, the catfish curse has been broken.
After that I landed another rat red and a nice 20 inch trout and we called it a day.
Final tally for the day was 6 reds and 1 trout. Thanks again to Chuck and Dee for taking us yakanglers out, I learned some stuff in the short time we fished and cant wait to do it again.
