With two rounds of voting complete, each category in the Kayak Angler’s Choice Awards has been slimmed down to five finalists. The only kayak fishing- specific awards had over 4,500 unique votes cast last week, doubling last year's participation. The results are very close, with some finalists moving ahead by only a few votes.

Abrahamsson, Joel - Joel Abrahamsson recently quit his job in construction, to pursue kayak fishing full time.  He holds the record for heaviest fish ever caught from a kayak, a Greenland shark that weighed 1,247 pounds. His goal is to start growing the sport of kayak fishing in Europe and take new kayak anglers out on guided trips for Nordic big game saltwater species.

Next year Joel plans on having an even bigger year with a kayak fishing trip to the Barents Sea in winter, no assist boats and a ton of monster fish.

Hart, Todd - Todd Hart has a true dedication to the sport of kayak fishing. His love for the sport can be seen on the tournament scene and with the many folks he has introduced to the sport. Todd took team victories on kayakwars.com and aspires to make kayak fishing a full time career. Fishing from a kayak is a rewarding, challenging adventure where much skill is necessary to be successful, and Todd is on the open water every week seeking new adventures and opportunities to fish or introduce the sport to others.

Todd spends much of his time either fishing or volunteering at a variety of fishing events, after which he reflects on his experiences and tells his stories on his blog, www.operationfish.com

Lessard, Steve - Steve is an avid kayaker that has as much fun helping others as catching fish himself but when it comes to tournament fishing few are better at adapting to multiple species and changing weather conditions. He has won the most tournaments in one of the largest kayak clubs “BCKFC’s” and this year added two more wins but also won in IFA and CCA Star. Everything from redfish, trout, bass to the toothy pike have fallen for Steve’s techniques. As the 2013 IFA national Champion He went to Europe representing the USA and dominated the field of forty seven of the world’s best kayak anglers and won the 2014 Hobie Worlds. He credits his local club and IFA for giving him this opportunity.

Self, Jason - Jason Self will fish from whatever boat he pleases with a piece of rope. He uses a chart and not a fish finder and will never compete in tournaments. He fishes for food not trophies and spends 99% of this time sharing his love of the water with others.

If you want to dig a little deeper into who Jason Self is check out his blog kayakangler.blogspot.com, seatrash.blogspot.com, pacificoutfitters.com, or pacificoutfittersadventures.com.

Stiger, Aaron - Aaron Stiger is a passionate kayak angler who enjoys serving the kayak-fishing community.  Aaron is the Assistant Director of the River Bassin tournament trail and the Tournament Director of College Kayak Fishing.  Aaron also devotes his time to Kayak Fishing Ohio, a tournament and charity-based organization in his home state.

Aaron Stiger is also an avid multi-species angler, and has been fortunate to land citation-level fish of several different species in the past year.  Detailing his immersion in the industry through writing and photography, Aaron has been featured in various media publications in 2014, and looks forward to contributing to the industry in the upcoming year.
