Friendly, Knowledgeable, and will put you on good Fish!

Marty Hughes aka KayakJak is a fantastic and friendly guide. He will not only put you on fish, he'll put you on a number of them and good size ones at that! He will openly share techniques, gear, and strategies. Plus if he is an amazing shore side cook! Nothing like a Dutch oven meal! On top of all that, you can't beat the prices! Who would've thought you will catch good size fish in Nebraska!

Fishing with KayakJak!

It all started when my wife, Jennifer Mues, decided to purchase a kayak for me on Fathers Day. But for some reason it just didn't feel right to have just one kayak. That day we bought 2 matching kayaks for our family to use at our local fishing holes. The very first day out on the water we ran into a gentleman in a kayak, who paddled up to us and introduced himself as Marty Hughes. He asked us how long we have been fishing from a kayak, and we giggled and told him it was our first day. He seemed a little surprised at the sight of our stringer and asked us what they were biting on. At that point we all fished in that cove and slaughtered the fish. Little did we know, from that day forward, we had met a lifelong friend and role model.

For my birthday, I was surprised by my wife with a guided kayak fishing trip with Marty in search of the mighty bottom dwellers that lurk in the stained waters of Swanson Reservoir. But that's not all. It was a night fishing trip which we had never done. Marty assured us that everything would be just fine. He supplied everything you would need from the kayaks, to tackle, equipment, and even the PFD's. All we had to do was show up.

That night was the most memorable night i have ever had. The wind picked up and blew 25mph, but Marty was determined to make our trip worth it. He baited our hooks, helped us tie up together, and assisted us in landing those beasts. He showed us his secrets on what to use and how to use it. That night I caught my first double digit Catfish from a kayak. What an experience, and Marty was just as excited as I was.

If you ever want to give kayak fishing a try or just want to learn some new techniques, or brush up on some old ones, I highly suggest looking Marty up. His kayak fishing experience, dedication to the angler, and all out generosity are beyond what you pay for.

Marty is a teacher first and fisherman second. And excellent at both.

Marty really is the godfather of kayak fishing in the state of Nebraska. He's probably been doing it longer and in a more dedicated fashion than anyone else in the state. He brings YEARS paddling, fishing, and teaching experience to the table so he's certainly got the resume. Let me tell you, there are plenty of great fisherman out there, but not all of them have the teaching spirit like Marty has. He really knows how to break everything down for the layman... everything from safety on the water, proper landing techniques, lure selection, how to read habitat, and how to target pretty much any sport fish in the state.

I would recommend him for a fun outing with the kids as much as I would recommend him to someone more serious looking to land monster catfish.

He's just an all around great guide, fisherman and teacher.

Beware however, if you go on a guided fishing trip with him, you might catch the kayak fishing bug. Next thing you know, you'll have a couple kayaks in the garage and hundreds or thousands of dollars worth of fishing and kayaking equipment, you'll be entering online tournaments, and gaining a whole bunch of friends in the ever growing kayak fishing community here in Nebraska.
