Went out yesterday for some crappies. 4 hours into it I had one dink crappie that I caught on my first cast and then nothing. The wind was from the north at 10-14mph and I was fishing the windblown side of the lake. I figured they would be up in the shallow 3-6 feet area warming in the 57F water and where the only cover was the weedline. Cast after cast and nothing. I then decided it was time to use that thing called a fish finder and go find them. I stayed on the windblown side as I knew that's where they would be. But, It was in 14 feet of water I hit my first school. No cover in sight just a 14 foot flat suspended 8-13 feet down. I rigged 2 rods with white glow in the dark jigheads and set them in my rod holders and let the wind and waves do the work of jigging. For the next 3 hours I went through 4 dozen minnows. One fish after another and somtimes doubles were happening. I ended up with around 40 to 50 crappie and kept 20 over 10". With the biggest going 13.5". I caught and landed 4 over 12" and lost as many over 12" at the yak. I really should use a net.

It has been a great April.

Getting into crappie is how i gained my love of fishing as a kid. It can be some intense action once you find them..

Would love to get out into them on the kayak. I plan on getting some crappie rods and trying it out again soon.. My first crappie trip i didnt find a thing..
