Loaded up Monday night after work and set the alarm for 3:30 am to make the trek North to Hennepin-Hopper lake for opening day. Met up with a friend from work and headed out with topwater Northern Pike on my mind, as it had been 364 days since my last WaterWolf fix. Once out upon the lake it was just too windy for topwater action so I suggested Wildeye swim shads as that's what worked last year. A few Largemouth Bass and one small pike later I suddenly realized my carefully chosen tackle bags had everything possibly needed EXCEPT wire leaders. Tied on a 50lb. braid leader but still managed to lose a few nice Pike due to bite off's. Oh well still had fun catching bass at this beautiful location, and the big pike (30"?)that charged my lure boatside, scaring the daylights out of me made the early wake-up call totally worth it. The other highlight was catching a squeak McGee bass on a Musky size Rapala- the lure was almost as big as this bass.
