I will tell you what I do when I visit new areas with my yak. Find a tackle shop and ask. Use google earth and check the area yourself and go check the areas out.

Thanks! Went to boat shop and the guy pointed me to a good little lake. I'm gonna try this afternoon.
Chewacla state park is a mile from me, I'll check it out too!

Thurlow and Yates Lakes between Tallassee and Lake Martin have some huge stripers. Lake Martin has the best Crappie fishing in Alabama and some really good Largemouth fishing at Lake Jordan at Wetumpka. All are within 40 miles of Auburn. Also, one of the best kayak shops in Alabama is here: www.coosariveradventures.com/
Hobie Compass 12-Blue
Hobie Outback 12-Dune
Jackson Cruise 12-Amber
Heritage Redfish 12-Yellow
Malibu Mini-X 9-Stone
Carolina Skiff 16

Look up Matt Laney, a local boy who knows the area well.

Also, don't pass up an opportunity to fish the Coosa River tailwater below Jordan Dam and the Tallapoosa tailwater below Thurlow Dam in Tallasee. Some really good spotted bass, white bass and red-eye bass fishing in these tailwaters.

Lake Jordan and eufalla are where I would start if you are into bass. Short drive up to Martin would work well too.
