So my son stayed home from preschool today with some sniffles (he will be 4 in December). I got some materials in the mail from a good friend and he said he wanted to tie flies......who was I to argue with him. The first one is called a Chernobyl ant (I guess). The foam was pre cut. My son picked out the colors. I decided to go with a floss thread, to keep him from breaking it. I held all the materials in place and he did all the thread wrapping. Followed instructions very well too. Understood when I said wrap up and down the hook, tight to my fingers and stuff like that. I let him cut the silly legs, tie them. He did all the tying himself except for the whip finish. My son is left handed so me tying a whip finish by hand with my left hand was quite the challenge lol. At that point he looked like the better tyer lol. He finished it off with some Sally Hansen hard as nails and we stuck it on a cork to dry. I'm extremely proud and happy. He had really good thread control. Floss was the right choice.

The second fly is my Frankenstein Shrimp lol. Again he picked the colors, and did all the wrapping and glueing. I use Mylar tuning as a belly and stick a rattle in it :).

Great job! Takes me back to when I taught my son to tie. He didn't like sticking to patterns, got some strange looking flies but the fish didn't seem to mind! Keep up the good work! :bravo:

This is really cool and seems fun to pass the time. I'm definitely gonna research into it!
