I am wanting to get a kayak for fishing and was wondering what brand. I would like a sit on top and one that costs a little less because I am still in school and I dont have a buch of money.

Fist off Welcome to the site!

Where are you fishing?

What species are you targeting?

What type of water will you be on, lakes, rivers, creeks, bays, ocean etc?

What is your budget?

How much do you weigh?

How tall are you?

I know it seem ridiculous but if you answer these questions people will be able to help you much better.

I will be fishing small rivers, creeks and smaller lakes fishing for trout, bluegill, crappie and bass. I am 6'1" and about 170 lbs. My budget is under $500

Your biggest obstacle is going to be your price point. Because of the type of water that you are going to be fishing you don't need a very long kayak; from 10'-12' is perfect.

Might want to have a look at the FeeFree Moken 10, at $649.00. Getting the non angler model will save you $50. I did a review on the Moken 10 Angler here.

Also might want to check out BassPro Shops Ascend brand, they are a great value for what your getting.

I've never paddled it but the Ascend D12 Sit In $579.99 Looks good, the seat is extremely comfortable "I sat in it at the store", it is a sit in so you won't have the room or sitting options of a sit on top but it looks stable enough to stand in.

Or look on Craigs list for a used kayak. Check out this thread about the short boat trend, it might help you also.

Also Welcome to the YA Nation!

Welcome to the site

Ditto what YakSushi said. I bought a FeelFree (which makes the Moken) this year for my youngest son. I am really impressed with what I got for the money. I here good things about the Ascends but I've yet to run in to them on the water.

I have heard good things said about the Perception "Pescador 12". You can usually find them in the big stores like Sports Authority or Dicks Sporting Goods. You might be able to find one for sale around your price range.

From what I understand, the Pescador 12 is based on the older Wilderness Systems Tarpon 12.
