I just found yakangler doing some research on my first angling kayak. I have a pelican fishing model but I would really like one I can stand in. I would like to stay under 1000. Any ideas? Also suggestions on gear I may need. I am primarily a fly fisherman.

There’s a bunch of stand-up options these days, but most retail for over $1000.

Bass Pro has some in that price range. I don’t know how good they are.

Your best bang for your buck, by far, is going to be buying a used one. You have to be ready to pull the trigger fast, though, because the best bargains on eBay/Craigslist/etc. get snapped up in a hurry.

Stores and online retailers should be bringing in their new models about now, so you might get lucky and find a new one or a demo from last year on clearance.

Good luck!

The Pelican Catch 120 is a fishing kayak that is easy to stand up in and is well under $1,000. I think it retails at $749 normally but can occasionally be found on sale for $599. Leaves plenty of money for customizing.

Paddle Swap may have some used yaks near you. I tried 3 times to post the link but it went 404 every time.

Also if you can find a dealer that will let you demo brands you are interested in it will let you know what will work for you or not. Good luck.
