I'm looking to buy my first kayak for fishing....been checking out reviews to see what's the best buy I can afford. I'm a single father and will be buying two kayaks. One for me and one for 17 yr old son. My nephew bought a used twelve foot one already rigged for fishing. Would appreciate any advice on what to stay away from and suggestions as to size and such. Will be using in lakes, ponds and creeks. Was looking at the Ascend brand at BassPro.

Welcome aboard. Try to find a local shop that has some demos they'll let you try so you can paddle different ones, find out what works for you. Good luck with your search.

BTW, I've paddled the Ascend FS128 late last year that my buddy got from bass pro. I think besides the weight, it's a great stable fishing boat. Comfy chair. Lots of room. Just heavy as all get out.

Welcome to YakAngler and this great addiction! To help people suggest kayaks can you tell us about your size, types of fishing you want to do, and price range. I would suggest a sit on top 12 foot kayak for those bodies of water. Also I would suggest demoing as many kayaks as possible so you get exactly what you want! Welcome aboard and please let us know what you get!

Welcome to the addiction. I would suggest looking at used kayaks since you can typically find some good deals if you are patient. I can second the concept of trying to demo as many as you can so you know what you are looking for.

Try to find someone close that fishes from a kayak. They will be a wealth of information plus they may know of used kayaks for sale. Dont get discouraged and be patient. Everyone is correct in trying to get you to try before buy. Welcome and keep coming back.

You will be hooked once you get out fishing on a yak. I personally will take my kayak over any motor boat fishing trip.
