YakAngler recently was offered the industry discount for GoPro... We know many of you already have a GoPro, we'd like your input.

What model do you have, likes dislikes, warnings etc. Help us out.

This will be a good topic. I am wanting some advise on a Go Pro as well. My Kodak Playsport took a shiz. I was thinking about replacing it with a GP.

I have the Hero Naked, which is the 1080p model - was a few bucks cheaper than any of the packages with the mounts. Still has the waterproof housing, ect. Bought a headband for it until I figure out how I want to mount it.

It shoots in mp4 format...I'd advise using a Mac to edit if you can.

They have a lot of great options for it and they aren't extremely pricey.

So far I like mine and plan on getting a few more.

I picked up an extra battery, 16 G memory card and wall charger too.

Eye of Mine makes some of their own Go Pro gear as well as the entire line of Go Pro products....they're about the same price as Go Pro - Don't buy from Best Buy, WAY too much money for nothing. - www.eyeofmine.com/gopro/order-gopro-hero.html

The 960 is only 179 buck, but I don't have any experience with them...yet.

Pros - Shoots AWESOME 1080p shots and 5MP stills

Cons - No zoom and the "fisheye" effect is a bit annoying at times, but it cuts down on the shakiness if you wear it on your head.

Sound quality isn't the best if it's in the waterproof case - put the skeleton back door on if you need audio and not waterproof...

Bottom Line - a great tool to make fishing videos with.

a discount really!!i just dropped...never mind...anyway i love there stuff the ability to scout the bottom on my lakes and out on the bay pay for itself within minutes.(8 ft pole with the camera on it...aka...redneck fishfinder) but the coolest thing is the size, wieght, and surface area is a big thing with us and to have the ability to have a smaller setup is a plus. know that they have the lcd backpack i really don't have any more issues with the setup. love them all!!!

I had the old one and it was just ok. I was able to get the big discount through another prostaff deal and recently got the new HD version and LOVE it. Here are a few screen shots from some video I took.

I only shoot with the 960p setting, not the full 1080 and I'm still very happy with the quality. My computer just can't handle those huge files. If I get a new computer I might try shooting in 1080. For now, I'm working on a compilation like I did last year, so hopefully I'll have a good sample for you soon.

Those look awesome, Rob!

BTW, I can upload and edit in iMovie on my Mac Mini with the 1080p files no problem.

I have two(2) one each and shoot both on the 960 setting, I can't really tell the difference except in the download times. I would HIGHLY recommend having an apple mac to use for editing. I tried on a pc and was totally frustrated with the results. Others may have a better suggestion for pc editing. For the price, I like the 960.

The HD Hero 960 ($179) is EXACTLY the same camera as the big brother HD Hero 1080 ($259). It has the same lens, same sensor, same battery, same mounts. They only difference is they took out a resolution and removed the back port (which adds the lcd screen, which is too small for my short arms to see and some other accessories like 3D).

Here’s an explanation of the resolutions available for the cameras:

 1080p: 1920x1080 True HD featuring a 127º angle of view, 30 fps, and 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio
 960p: 1280x960 Ultra Wide and Tall HD featuring a 170º angle of view, 30 fps, and 4:3 aspect ratio. See more of the action above and below than widescreen16:9 resolutions can show.
 720p: 1280x720 Ultra Wide HD featuring a 170º angle of view, both 30 and 60 fps, and 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio
 480p (WVGA): 848x480. This is a wide DVD format at 60fps progressive which is great for times when you don't need HD. So it's basically 2 cameras in one!

960 Hero

HD Video Resolution Modes:
• 960p = 1280×960 pixels (4:3), 30 fps, 12 Mbit/s data rate
• 720p = 1280×720 pixels (16:9), 30 fps, 8 Mbit/s data rate
• WVGA = 848×480 pixels (16:9), 60 fps, 8 Mbit/s data rate

Photo
• Resolution: 5 megapixel
• Capture Modes: Single shot, photo every 2, 5, 10, 30 or 60 secs.; 3 photo burst; self-timer

1080 Hero

• 1080p - 1920x1080 pixels, 30 fps, 12 Mbit/s data rate
• 960p - 1280x960 pixels, 30 fps, 10 Mbit/s data rate
• 720p - 1280x720 pixels, 30 fps with 7.5 Mbit/s data rate, OR
60 fps with 15 Mbit/s data rate
• WVGA (848x480): 60 fps, 8 Mbit/s data rate

Photo
• Resolution: 5 megapixel
• Capture Modes: Single shot, photo every 2, 5, 10, 30 or 60 secs.; 3 photo burst; self-timer

Some storage information:
• Memory: SD card, up to 32GB capacity (SDHC)
• Average recording times with 32GB SD card:
• 1080p (30 fps): 4hrs. 21 minutes
• 960p (30 fps): 5 hrs. 26 minutes
• 720p (30 fps): 8 hrs. 9 minutes
• 720p (60 fps): 4 hrs. 21 minutes
• WVGA (848x480 60fps): 8 hrs. 9 minutes

I personally use 16GB & 8GB cards that are more economical. The standard battery only lasts about 2.5 hours.

Most of this is plagiarized from Eye of Mine.

Like Rob said, they have a great website with extra accessories and some cool comparison videos.

BTW - THEY DO NOT FLOAT!

So if you could get the HD Hero 1080 for less than the HD Hero 960 the 1080 easily wins in your opinion chip?

I 'spose... if it is cheaper then sure, I mean I probably wouldn't ever use the 1080, but if you could only get the discount on the 1080, why not? Is this a trick question?

I failed to mention that the frames-per-second (fps) at 60 means you can get some cool slo-motion with little quality loss.

They are really cool little cameras, and I have a extension handle to do just what Wheeler said! BTW, on the Eye of Mine site they have a section on how to use a filter with photoshop to remove most of the distortion in the stills caused by the fisheye. www.eyeofmine.com/gopro/hd/photoshop/photoshop-correctdistortion.pdf
