I'm wanting to say Warmouth, as I thought Rock Bass have more definite lines running down the length of their body, but I just cant completely convince myself that the fish is a Warmouth, so I thought I'd come here for your all's opinion on it

Thanks, that's what I was thinking... I did a google image search of both, but I think there's quite a few people out there confusing the two, and many images that I found for Rock Bass looked more like warmouth than rock bass, so I wasnt totally sure. I also, for some reason, thought that warmouth were more of a southern species than to be found in a farm pond in Lexington, Ky. Learn something new every day!

Yeah they often get confused.... LOL infact now that I look at it I start to question my first answer.

Here is a Rock Bass caught out of a small creek near Bardstown.

LOL or is it a Warmouth and your fish is the Rock Bass!

Whatever he is, he sure had some gusto! He smashed my 5" Senko (which was only about an inch or two shorter than he was) haha

I grew up calling those rockbass. They have more of a bluegill-with-a-big-mouth look to them. Especially with that pronounced of an ear. The 2nd photo I've always called a red eye. They always have a shortened bass body. There markings are always just like the 2nd photo with rows of thin lines and faint darker blotches and of course very RED eyes. What I've always called them though are deffinetly not the scientific names for them.

Yeah, the first pic is a warmouth, I'm pretty sure. Its sort of hard to tell with its fins all laid down. Warmouth has a more bluegill body type were as the rockbass looks more like a shortened bass body.

It would make sense that you wound find a warmouth in a pond since they are more closely related to the sunfish family. Where as a rock bass typically can be found in similar conditions as a smallmouth bass.
