Hello to all,
My name is Adam and I am currently in the process of saving up for a fishing Kayak. I am new to the sport and do not have a boat yet. I will be trying several different brands out before buying but I am leaning towards a Malibu X-Factor. I am liking this boat due to it being a big man's boat and the stability of being able to fly fish from it. Any ideas or opinions concerning this boat. Like I said I will be trying different brands. Anyway I am looking at saving and getting my boat by next spring. I am very excited to get into this. All aspects of this sport interest me. So thank you for having this site and the amount of information for a newbie is great. Everyone have a great day.

Welcome to the YA Nation!! If your fishing in Idaho you don't have to worry about surf lunches... But what type of water will you be fishing? How and where you fish will have a huge influence on the type of yak you buy. But you are on the right track do your reasurch, demo as many as you can and you'll be good!

yaksuchi,
thanks for the reply, I have all types of freshwater fish up here, they cover Rainbow Trout to Bass to trophy Kokanee and Chinook Salmon as well as Pike. So there is a large gambit of different fish to go for. There are many Lakes, Rivers and Streams to fish. Our lakes are huge bodies of water and the chop and get pretty rough out there. Two of our largest lakes are Lake Coeur d' Alene which spans 25 miles (40 km) long, ranges from 1 to 3 miles (4.8 km) wide and has over 109 miles (175 km) of shoreline and Lake Pend Orelle which has a surface area of 148 square miles (380 km2). It is 65 miles (105 km) long, and 1,150 feet (350 m) deep in some regions, making it the fifth deepest in the United States. And there are smaller ones of course. So big water is what I am looking at. For fishing I use a spinning rod and I keep my Fly Rod handy. But I have others in my arsenal for trying for the bigger fish.

Welcome to the site!
I too am a big guy and I float on an X-Factor. It's a very nice yak for a big guy but like all of them it is not perfect. I did a review on the X-Factor not to long ago. Here's the link but if you look under the the articles menu/review/boat reviews you will find a lot of good reviews on different boats. If you have any questions let me know I'll be happy to help you out and answer questions. I demoed a lot of yaks last year and would recommend you do the same.

Well besides the heavy chop the Native Ultimate would be a great boat for you.

Welcome to YakAngler!

I use a Malibu Stealth 12 and love it. Read my article on today's front page about choosing the right kayak!
