This is what I did to a HF 4'x8' folding trailer. I had Thule racks to use and a neighbor helped me find aluminum extrusion that absolutely made this build awesome. Trailed two ocean kayaks, four bikes and a cargo box two Washington Island, WI for a week of paddling and fishing with a family of five in the Outback! I figure I can carry up to six boats with the two racks on the sides and four with a kayak stacker down the middle.

Nice work! That's a sweet trailer set-up you have there.

Oh and welcome to the site

Nice setup, is it relatively light?

The trailer new weight about 160#, I added a 7' steel tubing tongue due to my long boats. The extrusion is all aluminum so I figure the trailer unloaded weighs 250-275#'s. The extrusion can be easily removed so I can fold it and stow it in my garage during the winter here outside of Chicago. The Outback has no problem pulling it and it is not wider than the vehicle. I'm thinking about selling a kit for similar builds if others want to do the same.

Wow, that turned out really good! One of the nicer complete trailers I have seen built from the Harbor Freight trailer. Good job!

Is it possible to get three yaks on this using the J racks?

I only have two sets of J cradles so that is what I used on the edges. I have a Yakima saddle and glide rack that fits on my Thule bars. I also have a Yakima kayak stacker that will allow me to put a minimum of two boats (one on each side of stacker) on their sides, but I think there is enough space to place two boats on each side of the stacker. I am sure if I had another set of J-cradles it would easily fit in the center of the trailer. Although it would be lower (closer to the trailer bed) then the outboard ones. Let me know if you want more pics or have more questions!

Thanks, K
