I built this cart like 4(?) years ago. It is built with 1-1/4" ABS pipe, the axle is 3/4" o.d., stainless steel instrument air tubing.

And it had 10" dia. wheels.

I was never fussy about those wheels, so I decided to 'pimp' the cart with some stylish 20" wheels.

Whatya think?

I also made a Youtube video.

Disclaimer: when I claim that this is my own design, I mean that the dimensions, the cart structure is my own, meant specifically to fit my kayaks.

Looks great. I'm really digging the carts too. I had seen others like it but they all had 3/4" all thread for axles. I like the tubing idea. Are the holes where the axles go thru the PVC sealed or are there drain holes drilled into the PVC?

I drilled a 3/8" hole in the bottom of the tee that is in the center of the ABS pipe. That's the low point of the frame so any water that gets in will run out that hole. :)

Makes sense. The carts are cool especially with the taller wheels. Fixing to build one for my yak.

I ordered a set of those wheels yesterday to build one for my yak. I had a store bought scupper hole cart that died. Been meaning to build one for a while now. Thanks for the inspiration Demonical

Hey Demonical did you glue the axle in place inside the PVC endcaps> Noticed you had to tap the old wheels off and the axles staid in place.

No I did not glue the axle in place. I drilled the hole exact dia. of the axle tubing (both carts), so they fit snuggly, no play in them at all.

Sorry it took so long to reply, I didn't see your question until just now.
