Please someone explain this to me....

Pulled directly from kayak wars points sheet.

- Dorado - (minimum length 0 inches) - 25 points - 15 per month
- Trophy Fish Length (36 inches) - 35 bonus points

But

- Red Drum - (minimum length 20 inches) - 10 points - 50 per month
- Trophy Fish Length (40 inches) - 20 bonus points ID = 1

- Trout - (minimum length 20 inches) - 15 points - 40 per month
- Trophy Fish Length (27 inches) - 20 bonus points

Catching 25 6' Dolphin + 375 points! I'm lucky if I get 1/2 Trout over 20' a trip..... That's pretty gay, especially for folks on the West coast of Florida. You would have to paddle for ages to get out to Mahi!

I agree to see a good example of how the points are not fair look at how many fish Dee has caught compared to the guy leading the points.. there is no way you can compete with guys that only have to go a mile or so off the beach and get double the points for what they catch.

I questioned some of the points on freshwater species as well.

Rank Angler Points Total Fish
1 Jagerschnapps 3845 122
2 mangohunter11 3700 118
3 Brandonshobie 3570 169
4 icunvme 3075 133
5 ReelKayakFishing 2675 203

Yup the top 4 have a ton of offshore fish.

How is a 1" Mahi worth 5 points more than a 20" Trout?

Having contemplated doing something on the same lines, I think the guys at Kayak Wars have done a pretty good job trying to even the playing field without have 5000 different regions. There is no way it will ever be totally fair, the guys on the west coast of Florida have to paddle out 50x farther the the guys on the east coast to hit blue water where they have a chance at catching Mahi. But considering the tourney is nationwide I think it's a pretty close to being fair with out being a total cluster F'.

Just my 2 cents.

I was thinking about this the other day and I totally agree that their are some things that are unfair. But fixing it is a hard issue.

Looking at it on the other side I'm not sure how to fix it. Most people do fish close to home but guys do travel, and while running across FL is not something that guys are going to do daily, it can be done. Plus you have anglers in say Orlando that drive about the same distance to either coast. And then there are nuts like me that drive thousands of miles to go fishing. By the time the KW tournament is over I will have fished from FL to Maine and caught fish in about 8 states.

I'm not sure how they would fix it except to constantly tweak the points every year to try and make it better. The only other option I see is require everyone have one of those new GPS equipped cameras have lots of regions to score points differently.

Just some of my thoughts.

So why not make them equal? Pretty simple really.

I wont do it again. When someone can take three different pictures of the same fish, its not worth competing.

Just my .02 cents

I say make the points for offshore fish a bit less valuable. Simple enough I say! There is 0 skill in catching tiny dolphin the same can't be said for landing trout over 20 inches

Yeah, its always going to be tough to make something like this truly fair. When Mark and I talked about doing something similar I spent days creating equations and ratios to try to keep it fair. My plan was to take the largest species from each state record and use that as the relative measure. So lets say that I catch a 3lb bass here in KY where the state record is 13.10lb. Then my score would be based on the percentage of 3lbs to 13.10lbs.

Either way, my plan doesn't work because we don't weigh we measure.
