Hello fellow yaks,

I am new to the tandem world and trying to find out which tandem kayak is best and your feedback as well. Here are the tandem kayaks I have been looking into:

Ocean Kayak Malibu 2 XL: www.oceankayak.com/kayaks/tandem_kayaks/malibu_two_xl/

Ocean Kayak Zest Two Exp: www.oceankayak.com/kayaks/tandem_kayaks/zest_two_exp/

Top 10 Best Tandem Kayak : kayakfisherly.com/best-tandem-kayaks-review/

I am really interested in the Ocean Kayak Zest.
My uses would include fishing the ocean and lakes and an all around family fun boat that will hopefully last a lifetime. What is your opinions? Thank you very much!

You just don't see a lot of tandems being used for fishing. The old Native Ultimate 14 was great as it was designed for solo and tandem use.. but being open like a canoe with lower gunwales with no scuppers not a good selection for offshore stuff.

The problem with most tandems kayaks & canoes is that they are designed for tandem only use. The weight distribution is far different for a solo vs, tandem. Thats where Native had a good idea with the U14.5 it could be setup with single seat in the center for solo use or front/rear seats for tandem.

Make sure you test paddle your selected options alone and with your partner...

I use an Ocean Kayak Frenzy for fishing on the Gulf side for sharks, mackerel, jacks, bull reds, etc, because my canoe would get swamped in the surf, but no way I'd try to fish with another person from a tandem SOT, you're just too close to each other and there is also not nearly enough room for gear for two people. If you and your partner are insistent on fishing from kayaks, which are an inferior fishing craft to canoes, then at least get two kayaks.

No doubt, taking someone beloved onboard takes the kayaking experience to the next-level. As an avid kayaker, I know how amazing it is! It requires nothing but the right watercraft. Among various options, my favorite tandem model is the Ocean Kayak 12-Feet Malibu Two which is the best rated tandem kayak available. With a 4-way adjustment feature, this comes with an 18.5-inch bow seat and a 20.25-inch stern seat. This kayak also features an optimum amount of space considering your needs that provides an enjoyable ride. The 12-feet long kayak has a weight limit of 425 lbs. 3-layer polyethylene, extra foam paddling, carrying handles, and storage gear straps are the added features of the kayak. You can easily carry two riders with it.
I want to make one thing clear. If you're thinking of carrying your dog in your kayak, a kayak for dog is enough. This tandem is for riding with your wife, friend, or any other beloved person.
