Finally after a crazy few weeks, was able to move to Georgetown KY. Only 5 minutes from the Elkhorn creek. My question is where is it safe to fish? I dont do the "rapids" and want to stay in the "calm" for now till I can say that I'm an experienced kayaker.

There are 6 putin/takeout points on our kayak fishing launch locations map. I would stay away from the "Elkhorn Campground Launch" that run to "Canoe Ky Upper Put In" is probably Class III rapids! Just ask Slamdunc about bailing out his ultimate with a beer can! If you launch at "Canoe Ky Upper Put In" it not bad. I've never fished "Elkhorn Creek Great Crossing Park" or "Elkhorn Creek Richard O Winder Park", but all the rest are not too challenging. Good Luck! Let us know when your going, there are always people willing to fish in our area!

I didnt take the yak out today, but tried shore fishing the Crossing park. Lots of people there and talked to a guy who launched his bass boat. He said for me to launch the yak below the dam down to the the other dam not too far down the creek, said alot of smallmouth are in there, but can be weak at time due to the fishing pressure from everyone. He really didnt give too much info for going up river, which I felt was odd, due to him taking his boat up that way. There wont be much time concentrated at Richard Winder Park from the extreme pressure till maybe the fall when it slows down. I appreciate the input from you guys and will keep "trekking" on for other areas. Any other ideas/input would be greatly appreciated if anyone else has any ideas. Reality is really setting in of missing my old home where I was minutes away from the Detroit River, Lake Erie, Huron River, and other canals that attached to these waters where I was never out without hooking a ton of fish.

Welcome to Georgetown! I live about 3 minutes for RichOWinder but don't fish there very much. There's also Oser landing (Over by Arby's) and the fella was right about putting in below the dam at Great Crossing but you should usually check the water flow rate before putting in there. It would be fine right now because we haven't had any rain, but after a hard rainfall it can prove challenging to get back upstream. I usually try not to go down that way if its over 120 cubic feet per second. Here's the link to check it http://waterdata.usgs.gov/usa/nwis/uv?03288100 There are a lot more spots to put in and usually around Georgetown you don't have to worry about rapids unless it's like it was earlier this spring!

I'll have to check out Oser Landing, not sure where thats at, maybe next weekend. I need to get as many ideas in the next month before the family moves down so I can have a "go-to" spot and get my scouting in now while I have the time. There is a launch about 5 minutes from the house. It is located by a tattoo shop on Paris rd. and I'v seen several small boat trailers in parking lot but only seen alot of bluegills in the water there. Is that a decent area? Thanks for the info.

That's Oser. If you go to the right there its a fairly short run to a dead end (dam). If you go to the left it goes back towards Paris and is a long stretch of creek. Calm waters and have caught some bass going both directions, but never "tore 'em up" so to speak. I've always done most of my catching below the dam at Great Crossing.

Thanks Pam! Looks like I will get the Yak wet next weekend depending on the weather and try the Oser out for now and maybe Great Crossing if I have time after a few commitments are over at the house. Even if I dont catch nothing, just getting familar and being on the water will suffice me at the moment!

Cool! Glad I could help. I'm dying to get on the water but figure I need to at least wait until the doctor releases me to go back to work (which hopefully is going to happen next Tuesday). It sure isn't soon enough. Let me know how you do.
