I'm going to buy a new spinning reel for trout fishing from my kayak, usually using 6 lb test.

No matter how careful I am, I occasionally get this situation with my current reel:

and if I don't notice, it leads to tangles.

Are there any reel characteristics that will reduce that problem?

Any specific recommendations?

Thanks!

Al

I don't fish with spinning reels a lot but if you'll always close your bail by hand in stead of just reeling the handle it should help. When you close it by hand and then pull back it should eliminate the tangle.

Close your bail by hand will help with that a lot.

Yes, I do that. It happens less that way, but still happens about once for every eight hours of fishing.

They all will do that.
As above- manual bail close with hand, and grab line in front of line roller- pull tight.
Your wind knots will dramatically decrease
